Good Afternoon Summit School District (SSD) Staff and Families,

The COVID-19 pandemic is not over. However, we are in a much better and safer place than this time last year. The end of the tunnel is brighter, but we’re not quite there. Yesterday, it was announced that our Summit community has moved to Level Green on the local Public Health COVID-19 Dial. With this change, we all need to continue to remain vigilant by physical distancing, wearing a mask, and following health and safety practices in our schools.

UPDATED GUIDANCE FOR SCHOOLS

Last Thursday, April 29, we received updated Guidance from Schools from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). Some important updates to the guidance include:

  • Updated decision-making flowcharts: Return to Learn Guidance, What about the Class, and Who is a close contact.

  • An immediate quarantine will occur in the event of One Critical Symptom (New Loss of taste or smell) or Two+ Major Symptoms (Feverish, 100.4°F or greater, Chills;  New or worsening cough; Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing).

  • Individuals with one or more minor symptom that lasts more than 48 hours will need a PCR test to return to school and avoid a quarantine. We recommend visiting the Mako or Centura community testing sites.

  • Those who are Fully Vaccinated (Two Shots plus Two Weeks) do not need to quarantine if exposed but should monitor symptoms.

MITIGATION STRATEGIES IN SCHOOLS

All Summit schools will continue to follow current mitigation strategies and layers of protection, as these strategies have served schools well in maintaining healthy learning environments, including:

  • Symptom Screener: We want to remind families to continue to complete your daily symptom screener every day. It’s important to be aware of any symptoms as they develop to limit any potential impact.  

  • Quarantines & Masks: Schools will continue to quarantine and wear masks for the remainder of this school year, according to the CDPHE Guidance and State Public Health Order (PHO 20-36). 

The Return to Learn Plan (bit.ly/ReturntoLearnPlan) and “What if” Visual have been updated to be adaptive to our ever-changing COVID environment. We will continue to expect new school guidance throughout the summer into the fall.

COVID-19 TESTING AT SCHOOLS

CDPHE has provided Antigen COVID-19 tests at no cost for use in schools, for symptomatic staff and scholars leaving school. DVE, UBE, SMS/SP, and SHS will be piloting the program this week, with plans to offer testing for the remaining few weeks of the school year. VACCINATIONS

COVID-19 vaccines are widely available across our community for anyone 16 years and older. A calendar of upcoming vaccine clinics is available on the Summit County Government website, summitcountyco.gov.

Buenas tardes Personal y Familias del Distrito Escolar de Summit,

Aunque la pandemia no ha terminado, estamos en un lugar y más seguro que el año pasado. El final del túnel es más brillante, pero no estamos del todo allí. Esta semana se anunció que nuestra comunidad ha pasado a un Nivel Verde, a pesar de todo, tenemos que seguir vigilantes y mantener el distanciamiento físico, usar máscaras y seguir con las prácticas de salud y seguridad en nuestras Escuelas y en nuestra comunidad.

ORIENTACIÓN ACTUALIZADA PARA LAS ESCUELAS

El pasado Jueves 29 de abril, recibimos de parte del Departamento de Salud y del Ambiente de Colorado, (CDPHE), una orientación actualizada para las Escuelas y algunas actualizaciones importantes de la guía incluyen:

  • Diagramas de flujo en la toma de decisiones actualizadas que incluyen: Volver a aprender,  Qué pasa con la clase y quién es un contacto cercano.

  • Un síntoma crítico,  (pérdida de sabor u olfato),  o dos síntomas principales (fiebre 100,4 *F o superior, tos nueva o empeorada, dificultad para respirar o dificultad para respirar) es una cuarentena inmediata.

  • Las personas con uno o más síntomas menores que duren más de 48 horas necesitarán una prueba de PCR para regresar a la Escuela y evitar una cuarentena. Recomendamos visitar los sitios de pruebas comunitarias de Mako o Centura Health.

  • Aquellos que están totalmente vacunados,  (dos vacunas más dos semanas),  no necesitan ponerse en cuarentena si están expuestos, pero deben controlar los síntomas.

ESTRATEGIAS DE MITIGACIÓN EN LAS ESCUELAS

Todas las Escuelas de Summit seguirán las estrategias actuales de mitigación y las capas de protección, ya que estas estrategias han servido bien a las Escuelas a mantener entornos de aprendizaje saludables, entre ellas:

  • Examinar síntomas: Queremos recordar a las familias que continúen completando el cuestionario de síntomas diario.  Es importante estar al tanto de cualquier síntoma a medida que se desarrollen para limitar cualquier potencial impacto.  

  • Cuarentenas y máscaras: Las Escuelas continuarán en cuarentena y usando mascarillas durante el resto de este Año Escolar, de acuerdo con la Guía CDPHE y la Orden Estatal de Salud Pública (PHO 20-36).

El plan de volver a aprender, (bit.ly/ReturntoLearnPlan),  y "¿Qué pasa si " Visual”, se han actualizado para ser adaptable a nuestro entorno de COVID que  continúa en constante cambio.  Esperaremos nuevas directrices escolares durante el verano hasta el otoño.

PRUEBAS DE COVID-19 EN ESCUELAS

CDPHE ha proporcionado pruebas antígenos COVID-19 sin costo para uso en las Escuelas,  para uso del personal sintomático y los estudiantes. DVE, UBE, SMS/SP y SHS estarán pilotando el programa esta semana, con planes de ofrecer pruebas para las semanas restantes del Año Escolar. VACUNAS

Las vacunas COVID-19 están disponibles en toda nuestra comunidad para cualquier persona de 16 años en adelante. El calendario de las próximas clínicas de vacunas está disponible en el sitio web del Gobierno del Condado de Summit, summitcountyco.gov.
