Summit School District (SSD) Staff and Families,
This week, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) released an updated state COVID-19 dial framework, Dial 3.0, which is now in effect until mid-April. Additionally, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also released updated guidance for schools.
Looking ahead to the remainder of this school year and into next school year, we do not know what the future holds. While we cannot predict the future of COVID-19 in our community, we continue to analyze data and metrics, review updated guidance, and update our Return to Learn Plan (bit.ly/SSDReturn2LearnPlan) to ensure it is responsive and supports scholar engagement, while prioritizing the safety and health of all in our learning communities. We remain committed to making data-informed decisions and remaining in a state of preparedness to adapt to the ever-changing COVID-19 environment. As each day approaches the end of the 2020-21 school year, our continued planning focuses on ending this school year strong and using our work this year to serve as a bridge to work toward the 2021-22 school year.
We cannot express enough gratitude for our staff and their diligent efforts to make in-person learning possible since Day #1 of this school year, and we want to encourage our families to celebrate with us in thanking all staff who were recently recognized as SSD Employees of the Year. We also contribute our continued success with in-person learning to our mitigation strategies, including masks, physical distancing, hygiene and sanitization, ventilation and air filtering, cleaning and disinfecting, building flow and traffic patterns, staggered schedules, scholar cohorting at the secondary levels, symptom tracking, COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, and many more. These critical layered approaches will remain in place as they have served us well in prioritizing health and safety in our decision-making.
As communicated at the start of the school year, we remain committed to offering as much in-person learning as possible in alignment with District health data and metrics and the Return to Learn Plan. Since the start of the school year, all Summit scholars have engaged in learning 5 days every week with Elementary scholars attending 4 days of in-person instruction and Summit Middle and High scholars following the Alternating Days A/B schedule.
Any decisions to increase in-person instruction for our comprehensive secondary schools for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year will be communicated to families the week before Spring Break. We do desire to communicate as early as possible in recognizing the time and effort for staff and family planning, but as we have experienced throughout the pandemic, our COVID landscape is ever-changing and all planning is COVID permitting. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we remain in close contact with our health partners and continue to closely analyze data and metrics throughout the remainder of this school year, Summer Break, and into next school year.
It is important to remember that public health information and guidance will continue to change, and we will keep families and staff updated as information is amended. Thank you again to all of our staff and families for your diligence in keeping our school buildings healthy, and we appreciate your partnership to remain nimble and prepared as we receive updated guidance.

Familias del Distrito Escolar de Summit (SSD),
Esta semana, el Departamento de Salud Pública y Medio Ambiente de Colorado (CDPHE) publicó un reporte actualizado del marcado COVID-19, del dial 3.0, que ahora está en vigencia hasta mediados del mes de Abril. Además, los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades de los Estados Unidos, (CDC), también han publicado directrices actualizadas para las Escuelas.
Mirando a lo que queda de este año escolar y del futuro año escolar, aún no sabemos lo que nos va a deparar. Aunque no podemos predecir el futuro del COVID-19 en nuestra comunidad, seguimos analizando datos y medidas, revisando las guías establecidas y actualizando nuestro Plan de Regreso al Aprendizaje, (bit.ly/SSDRegresoAlAprendizaje), para asegurarnos de que responde y apoya la participación de los alumnos, al mismo tiempo que priorizaríamos la seguridad y la salud de todos en nuestras comunidades de aprendizaje. Seguimos comprometidos a tomar decisiones en base a informes y permanecer así para adaptarnos al entorno del COVID-19 que siempre está en constante cambio. A medida que se acerca el final del año escolar 2020-21, nuestra planificación continúa, centrados en terminar este año escolar fuertes y usar nuestro trabajo para servir como puente hacia el año escolar 2021-22.
No podemos expresar la suficiente gratitud a nuestro personal y los diligentes esfuerzos para hacer posible el aprendizaje en persona desde el primero día de este año escolar, queremos alentar a nuestras familias a celebrar con nosotros al agradecer a todo el personal que recientemente fue reconocido como Empleados del Año del Distrito Escolar, (SSD). También reconocemos nuestro éxito continúo con el aprendizaje en persona a nuestras estrategias de mitigación, incluyendo uso de máscaras, distanciamiento físico, higiene y desinfectación, ventilación y el uso de filtros de aire, diagramas de flujo y tráfico en los edificios, horarios establecidos, grupos académicos en los niveles secundarios, seguimiento de síntomas, pruebas y vacunas del Covid-19 y muchos más. Estos enfoques críticos seguirán vigentes, ya que nos han servido para priorizar la salud y la seguridad en nuestra toma de decisiones.
Tal como se comunicó al comienzo del año escolar, seguimos comprometidos a ofrecer tanto el aprendizaje en persona como sea posible y en línea, siempre con los datos y medidas del Distrito y el Plan de Regreso al Aprendizaje. Desde el inicio del año escolar, todos los estudiantes del Distrito se han dedicado a aprender 5 días a la semana, los alumnos de las Escuela Primarias lo han hecho asistiendo 4 días de instrucción en persona y alumnos de la Escuela Media y Alta siguiendo el horario de días alternos A/B.
Cualquier decisión en aumentar la enseñanza en persona para escuelas secundarias por el resto del año, se comunicaría a las familias la semana antes de las vacaciones de primavera. Deseamos comunicarnos lo antes posible para reconocerles el tiempo y el esfuerzo tanto del personal y de la planificación familiar, pero como hemos experimentado a lo largo de la pandemia, nuestro panorama está en constante cambio y toda la planificación depende de lo que el COVID nos permita.
Gracias por su comprensión y paciencia, seguimos en estrecho contacto con nuestros socios de salud y seguiremos analizando de cerca los datos y las medidas durante el resto de este año escolar, vacaciones de verano y hasta el próximo año escolar.
5ta REUNION VIRTUAL EN EL AYUNTAMIENTO
Todas las familias están invitadas a la quinta reunión virtual del Distrito, "Dónde estamos, a dónde vamos", a realizarse en el Ayuntamiento, con su superintendente, el Dr. Marion Smith Jr., y los miembros del Equipo de Liderazgo del Distrito, el Lunes 29 de marzo del 2021. De 5:30pm a 6:30pm vía Zoom (código de acceso: summit). Interpretación al lenguaje español estará disponible.
