As of September 7, 2020 (retroactively):
This guidance is based on information available on September 9, 2020.  SSD recognizes that state and local Public Health information is being monitored and updated regularly.  If the above information needs to be modified, key stakeholders will be notified.

Illness consistent with COVID-19

Screen for COVID-19. The graphic below refers to new symptoms or a change in usual symptoms. A child should not be excluded from school due to usual symptoms due to a chronic health condition unless they change or get worse. These symptoms are in addition to regular school guidance for exclusion due to illness. For example, all children and staff with vomiting and/or diarrhea should not attend school.

One symptom

Immediate Quarantine

The class or cohort will be quarantined immediately if the student or staff was in class within 48 hours of the development of the following:

  • Positive COVID test

  • New symptom and close contact with someone who has COVID

  • Fever and another major symptom

Isolation Situations

**Anyone with a positive COVID-19 test or new symptom and close contact with someone who has COVID-19 must isolate and will be followed by Summit County Public Health.  Report probable or confirmed cases of COVID-19 or suspected outbreaks to PHCOVID19Response@SummitCOuntyCO.Gov or 970-485-4824.

  1. Student/staff will stay home if they have any symptoms of COVID19.

  2. If all symptoms resolve in 24 hours from onset and the student/staff is symptom free for 24 hours, then the student/staff can return to school. *Individuals who only have Minor symptoms, will be allowed to return to school if symptoms resolve within 48 hours.

  3. If symptoms last more than 24 hours, it is recommended that parents/staff:

  • make an appointment with a medical provider AND

  • get a test for COVID-19

  •  Individuals without an alternative diagnosis, who are awaiting test results or decide not to get tested, should isolate for 10 days or 24 hours symptom free, whichever is longer.

  1.  Repeat testing or testing to return to school following isolation is not required or recommended.

  2. Quarantine of a cohort will not be based on a student/staff having symptoms (unless it’s a fever and another major symptom--noted above in immediate quarantine)

If there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 identified within the school in the last 14 days OR if 10% or more of students/staff are out sick with COVID-19 like symptoms, SSD will work with SCPH to discuss quarantine of that cohort/class directly following CDPHE’s “What About the Class” algorithm.
